In Stairs & Stocks, infinitely generated staircases are juxtaposed with fictional stock charts. The stairs are devoid all context, leaving the viewer wonder about the settings they might connect.

While constantly rotating and morphing, the stairs grow new steps, gradually increasing the visual complexity of the rendered scene. Occasionally, the entire scene collapses, only to reorganize shortly after and start the same vicious cycle over again.

The absurdity of contextless stairs mirrors the obsessive focus on fluctuating numbers within the web3 space. The endless rise and fall of both virtual stairs and stock charts reflect a fruitless pursuit, highlighting the cyclical patterns we often find ourselves trapped in.

Stairs & Stocks

About the piece

Stairs & Stocks is a time-based audiovisual piece with a twist: every few minutes, all pieces across the collection synchronize their motion, and ultimately reach a state where also the audio is in sync. The collection is intended to be shown on multiple screens side by side to emphasize this effect. I hope the accessible pricing makes it possible for the avid collector to mint multiple editions.

The series will be released as the second ever generative collection on objkt.com, curated by Fakewhale, coinciding with a private view at Valuart in Lugano.

A staircase in Paris

Stairs & Stocks is inspired by this photo I took during a visit to Paris in the summer of 2023. Ever since, I’ve been captivated by the poetry and absurdity of stairs without any context, which ultimately led to this exploration.
